How Much Can a Bluetti Solar Generator Power?

Generally speaking, the largest Bluetti solar generators with an adequate solar panel array can provide essential home power for outages or off-grid use indefinitely.

Their powerful inverters can handle heavy-duty devices like air conditioners. The batteries are robust and can get through long nights or stormy days. And the charging system is capable of handling thousands of watts worth of solar panels. You can also get a little boost from fuel generators if you need it.

Even if you don’t have a charging source connected, the batteries will last many hours or days while providing power to your most critical devices. If you just use them to recharge small electronics or power LED lights, they can last weeks.

As you step down in the size of Bluetti solar generators, your expectations will need to follow. But they can still provide endless power to a small amount of devices. With the right power station and solar panels, you can charge up in the day, then use the battery at night. Over and over.

Three factors that impact how much power a Bluetti solar generator will provide and for how long. They are:

    1. The energy consumption rate
    2. The battery level and capacity
    3. The charging rate

To jump into these details, head over to our post on Calculating Solar Panel Needs.

    Bluetti Company Information

Bluetti is the brainchild of two energy industry veterans, Wonder Law and James Ray. In 2019, they joined forces to create a new power station for everyday living. A minimalist design with an easy-to-use interface are central elements.

The Nevada-based company immediately skyrocketed to the top. Their first EB series of power stations took the market by storm. Now, they’ve created multiple lineups of solar panels and portable power stations. When you combine the two, you create a Bluetti solar generator that can provide endless power anywhere you want.

Many of Bluetti’s products are great for camping. But Bluetti didn’t stop there.

They’ve now become a prominent fixture in home battery backup solutions too. The larger Bluetti systems, like the incredible EP900, can handle very serious power needs for hours, days, or even weeks at a time. And they eliminate a lot of the hassle and problems of DIY systems. You simply plug in a charging source on one end and your devices on the other. That’s it.

As Bluetti evolved, its customer support and community have filled out. They’re ready to answer questions and make sure your system meets your needs. There’s also a wide vareity of Bluetti accessories to fill any gap.

Not only can you help use a more sustainable energy source, you’ll cut your energy bill and get through emergency outages without concern.

    Bluetti App

While Bluetti systems have integrated displays, the Bluetti app can step in to provide an incredible amount of control and monitoring. All from anywhere at any time.

You can monitor your energy use, see charging rates, and view the battery status. There are also a variety of controls for input and output from the app.

And even if you don’t have WiFi service, you can still use the app through a Bluetooth connection. It’s available on both the Apple and Google Play app stores.

Bluetti EP Series Power Stations and Home Battery Backup Systems

    Bluetti EP Series Power Stations

This biggest system offered by Bluetti is the EP Series of power stations and solar generators. They’ll unlock a new world of home battery backup power or off-grid electricity.

The Bluetti EP900 and EP800 hold the throne position for all Bluetti solar generators. They are downright amazing power stations made to pair with multiple B500 battery packs. The system can grow over time by adding more B500 batteries.

The rest of the Bluetti EP Series power stations include the EP500Pro and EP500. While slightly less powerful systems, they’re a slightly more portable system on wheels.

    BLUETTI EP900 + B500 Home Battery Backup

    Bluetti EP900

As the largest power station from Bluetti, the EP900 brings out the big guns. It has massive output capabilities, serious battery capacity, and a very sleek design. Best of all, it has a modular design that can grow over time.

It is capable of powering most households entirely, including heavy-duty electrical appliances for both 120V and 240V needs. And you can pair it with a massive amount of solar panels.

The EP900 uses a more integrated connection to your home circuits compared to most solar generators. That means you can easily connect it to your home systems. You can still disconnect it to move, but you probably don’t want to bring this camping for a quick weekend.

The minimum EP900 configuration comes with one EP900 inverter/charger unit and two B500 battery packs. This gives you nearly 10kWh of battery storage and an inverter that will run devices totaling up to 7,600W.

And if you want to level up, you can:

    • Add up to two more B500 battery units (four batteries per unit)
    • Chain it with another entire EP900 unit with up to another four B500 battery packs (eight batteries total)

If you max this out with two EP900 units and eight B500 batteries, you’ll have nearly 40kWh of battery and 18,000W of power. Jaw-dropping figures for an out-of-the-box battery system with such a small footprint.

Throw on up to 9,000W of solar for each EP900 unit a monster Bluetti solar generator. That’s up to 18kW of solar panels with two EP900 units. That’s an incredible amount of power.

If you want the best of the best solar generators from Bluetti, the EP900 is it. Start with that power station and two battery packs, throw on up to 9kW of solar panels and/or a fuel generator, and you’re set. Don’t forget your transfer switch to integrate it into your existing home circuits.

The Bluetti EP900 solar generator can grow over time with more batteries, another inverter unit, and tons of solar panels.

    Battery capacity:9,920Wh to 39,680Wh (2 to 8 B500 packs)
    AC Inverter output:7,600W to 18,000W (1 to 2 EP900 units)

    Bluetti EP800

Not everyone needs the extreme capability of the EP900. The next step down is the EP800. Its design is nearly identical to the bigger sibling, but the capability and price are a little lower.

The main difference is a slightly smaller AC power inverter, with a maximum output of 7,600W instead of 9,000W. Otherwise, it’s a nearly identical unit in every way:

    • Minimum package is the EP800 main unit paired with two B500 battery packs (10kWh)
    • Add on up to two more B500 batteries to boost capacity to nearly 20kWh
    • 9,000W of solar input per EP800 unit

If you have heavy-duty devices that may require more than 7,600W at one time, then reach for the EP900. But if 7,600W is sufficient, you can save a little case and get the EP800.

Bluetti doesn’t prominently advertise pairing two EP800s like it does with the EP900s. It seems like it’s still possible with the right gear, but once again, if your needs are that big, consider the EP900 instead.

    Battery capacity:9,920Wh to 39,680Wh (2 to 8 B500 packs)
    AC Inverter output:7,600W to 15,200W (1 to 2 EP800 units)
    240V Outlet:Yes, in each unit

    BLUETTI B500 Expansion Battery

    Bluetti B500

The Bluetti B500 is the battery bank that supports the EP900 and EP800 inverter charger units. Each B500 battery has 4,960Wh of storage.

Each EP900 or EP800 system starts with two B500 battery packs. But you can attach up to four B500s to each EP inverter main unit.

If you pair two EP units together, you can use up to eight B500 battery packs. This creates a maximum capacity of 39,680Wh (eight B500 packs and two EP900 units).

    BLUETTI EP500Pro Solar Power Station

    Bluetti EP500Pro

Before the Bluetti EP900 was released, the Bluetti EP500Pro was their most capable system. Although the specifications across the board are slightly less impressive, the EP500Pro is still an incredibly powerful Bluetti solar generator.

The major benefits of the EP500Pro are:

    • Extreme convenience: Plug-and-play system that can be easily installed or removed
    • Ultra-portable: Everything integrated into one comprehensive unit on wheels

Where the larger units require a fairly complex connection to your home circuits, the EP500Pro uses one large 30 amp cable, similar to an RV.

Your home backup solution can double as your solar power on the go. Have a big event that needs lighting? Want to bring a serious power source camping? Bring the EP500Pro along for the ride.

The EP500Pro’s capabilities are still fairly impressive, including:

    • 3,000W AC inverter output can handle the majority of home appliances
    • 5,120Wh integrated battery pack
    • Universal power system (UPS) function switches to battery during grid outage (0 ms)
    • Bluetti app monitoring and control

You can pair up to two Bluetti EP500Pro power stations together through a split-phase system. This doubles inverter output to 6,000W and battery capacity to 10,240Wh.

One downside is that you cannot add individual battery packs as easily. The battery is part of the main unit instead of the stackable, modular design of the EP900 and EP800.

    Battery capacity:5,120Wh to 10,240Wh (1 to 2 EP500Pro units)
    AC Inverter output:3,000W to 6,000W
240V Split Phase:Capable with two units

    BLUETTI EP500 Solar Power Station

    Bluetti EP500

As you can guess, the EP500 is very similar to the EP500Pro. It simply bumps down the inverter output rating and allows for less solar input. The battery capacity remains 5,120Wh and the solar charging is still 1,200W per unit.

The AC output from the inverter provides up to 2,000W of power at one time instead of 3,000W.

At this level, there are more restrictions on what devices you can run at the same time. A hairdryer and a large fridge compressor at the same time might overwhelm it.

To boost capacity, you can use a split phase system to pair two EP500 units together, doubling inverter power to 4,000W and charging input to 2,400W. This is a pretty tolerable amount for most home use needs. But it might be best to jump up to the EP800 for over 7kW of output.

The Bluetti EP500 Solar Generator kit comes with three 200W solar panels for 600W total solar charging. This is a great start on a portable solar generator system that can work for home use or on the road.

For people who want a nice portable system that can double as a critical load backup for home, the EP500 is an excellent choice. Just be aware that it doesn’t scale up like the EP900 can.

    Battery capacity:5,120Wh to 10,240Wh (1 to 2 EP500 units)
    AC Inverter output:2,000W to 4,000W
240V Split Phase:Capable with two units

Bluetti AC Series Power Stations and Solar Generators

Bluetti AC Series Power Stations and Solar Generators

The other major product line for Bluetti solar generators and power stations is the AC Series. This includes the regular AC Series and the Bluetti Premium AC Series.

While nothing matches the EP900 or EP800 figures, some of the top AC Series are pretty close to the EP500 and EP500Pro. And the AC Series is a more modular system, allowing for more growth.

This means some AC Series solar generators can work well for a small home backup solution or off-grid electrical system.

Other Bluetti AC Series portable power stations start to decrease in capabilities fairly dramatically. The prices start to fall as well. Many of these units are ideal for things like tent camping, adding solar power to RVs, and very light off-grid power use.

Let’s dive into the details of the Bluetti AC Series power stations.

    BLUETTI AC500 + B300S Home Battery Backup

    Bluetti AC500

The leader of this pack is the Bluetti AC500 power station and solar generator. Despite not being part of the EP Series, it actually sits between the EP800 and EP500Pro in terms of capabilities. And it’s a very attractive Bluetti product.

The starting package is one AC500 unit with one B300S battery bank. This basic system provides:

    • 5,000W AC inverter output
    • 3,072Wh battery capacity
    • 3,000W solar DC input
    • Bluetti app connectivity and control

You can increase the battery capacity by adding up to six B300S batteries for each AC500 unit (up to 18,432kWh).

Or run another AC500 main inverter unit in a split-phase system (attaching the two together with a simple adapter). Then you can run 240V appliances, get 10,000W output, and attach up to 12 B300S batteries (36,864Wh). These figures are very close to the same as the EP units.

For many people, the Bluetti AC500 is an ideal choice because:

    • It’s a powerful and modular system that can grow with your needs
    • The portable design means it’s not stuck at home
    • The capabilities are robust yet the price is still attractive

This power station can pair perfectly with nearly any solar panel array to transform itself into the solar generator of your dreams.

    Battery capacity:3,072Wh to 36,864Wh (1 to 12 B300S packs)
    AC Inverter output:5,000W to 10,000W (1 to 2 AC500 units)
240V Split Phase:Capable with two units

    Bluetti AC300

The Bluetti AC300 is another very exciting power station. It’s more affordable than the AC500 and keeps many of the top capabilities. But there are some changes.

Compared to the AC500, the inverter is less powerful (5kW vs. 3kW). It’s also limited to eight battery packs maximum and it can’t use the exact same batteries. And the charging inputs are slightly lower. But it’s an excellent all-around solar generator.

An AC300 with the right amount of B300 batteries can:

    • Run essential house power for days
    • Serve as an excellent off-grid energy system backbone
    • Be a great fit for instantly adding solar power to an RV or campervan

However, if you want to run heavy-duty electrical devices, like an air conditioner or electric dryer, you may want to crank up your budget to the EP800. Those appliances can chew through energy like a hungry teenager.

The solar input maximum is 2,400W per AC300 solar generator. That’s some serious business that exceeds the needs of many. If maxed out, you could recharge one B300 battery in less than two hours of sunlight.

You can pair the AC300 with any solar panels. But Bluetti AC300 solar generator kits provide excellent value and everything you need with one click.

    Battery capacity:3,072Wh to 24,576Wh (1 to 8 B300 packs)
    AC Inverter output:3,000W to 6,000W (1 to 2 AC300 units)

    Bluetti B300S & B300

Bluetti offers two batteries for the AC500 and AC300 that are remarkably similar. They have the same 3,072Wh of energy storage. But there are some differences to understand.

Here’s a breakdown of the Bluetti B300S and B300 battery packs:

    Bluetti AC200L

We’re reaching the most affordable and portable Bluetti solar generators. Many of these are ideal for camping or other portable electricity needs. That’s because a battery is integrated into the unit. Grab one box and have portable power anywhere.

Don’t write these off entirely for home backup power or RV/campervan use. These power stations can still power lights, charge phones, and keep essential electronics running for many hours. And they can run for days when paired with the right solar panels.

Bluetti currently has three levels of the AC200 power station and solar generator. The AC200L is the latest and greatest, featuring:

    • 2,400W AC output with Power Lifting Mode capable of 3,600W
    • Solar charging input maximum of 1,200W

    Bluetti AC200Max

As we review the other Bluetti AC200 solar generators, you’ll see a similar design throughout. The inverter and charging capabilities decrease a little bit.

You can save hundreds of dollars without losing too much. If you know that you don’t want to exceed the inverter rating or charging maximum, save your cash.

    The AC200Max’s ratings are:

    • 2,200W AC inverter output
    • 900W solar charging input maximum, 500W AC input max

It still offers the same integrated ~2kWh battery bank and the ability to add B300 and B230 external battery banks.

The biggest difference is the decreased charging input. 500W AC input (from a household plug) is fairly low for the industry standards. But it’s still about 4 hours to charge the internal bank.

Overall, electricity cannot flow as quickly in or out of this unit when compared to the AC200L.

If you use an external battery bank, you can add up to 500W of solar charging directly to the external battery through the Bluetti DC Charging Enhancer. This would be a completely separate solar array from the 900W going to the main unit.

This is still a very powerful solar generator that can work well for many needs. With over 8kWh of available battery and over 2kW AC output, it’s enough to handle refrigerators, blenders, lights, and many small devices.

    Bluetti B230

The Bluetti B230 is an eternal battery bank with a 2,048Wh capacity that works exceptionally well with the AC Series power stations above.

This battery comes with a lot of features, including:

    • USB-C port
    • USB-A port
    • 12V DC cigarette lighter outlet
    • P090A capacity fusion outlet to attach to AC200L or AC200Max

While it’s possible to use this as a standalone device, it’s not the intended use. It will also lack any AC outlet for devices that need a normal household plug. It can still serve a purpose for those in need of it, but a little limiting for the price.

    BLUETTI AC200P + 3*PV200 Solar Generator Kit

    Bluetti AC200P

The AC200P brings the capability and price down another notch. This time to 2kW inverter output and 700W solar charging.

If you know that your devices won’t pull more than 2kW and you don’t want more than 700W solar panels, this is a great fit. This can still power a fridge, fans, and small devices without a problem. 700W of solar is a pretty substantial amount, especially if you’re talking about tent camping.

While you can still add external battery banks (for up to 8kWh total), it starts to get a little messy.

The AC200P doesn’t have the same dedicated inputs for external packs. Instead, you’ll route them through the DC and AC inputs using multiple cables (two P090D to XT90 cables, one XT90 to aviation cable, and one D050S Charging Enhancer).

For those that need external batteries, it’s likely worth getting the AC200Max or AC200L.

The AC200P comes in many Bluetti solar generator kits. Or you can use any other solar panels. Most solar panels use an MC4 connector while the Bluetti uses a common XT90. You can read more about How to Connect Solar Panels here.

    BLUETTI AC180 + PV200 Solar Generator Kit

    Bluetti AC180 & AC180P

This is a more affordable Bluetti solar generator that packs a lot of punch. While other systems start to see sacrifice in one area or another, this one is well-rounded with each component matching well.

Overall, the AC180 is one of the most attractive Bluetti power stations and solar generators. Its fast charging, powerful inverter, and attractive price combine to make an excellent device.

The AC output takes after the model name, hitting 1,800W. That’s a major boost over the last two AC units we reviewed.

The AC180 has four AC outlets to let you take advantage of this powerful inverter. As well as 5 USB outlets, one 12V outlet, and one 15W wireless charging pad.

The battery capacity is the biggest difference between the AC180 and the AC180P, with 1,152Wh for the 180 and 1,440Wh for the 180P. You can still use external battery banks like the B300 and B230 to increase the power capacity.

Where the AC180 shines is with the charging system. It can handle 500W solar, giving it a full charge in just 3 hours of sunlight. But the AC input ramps up to a massive 1,400W, giving you a fully charged system in about an hour and a half. That’s amazing.

This is also a nice, lightweight package at just 35 pounds. It’s small enough to pack with any gear and bring along for the adventure.

    Bluetti AC180T

At first glance, this addition to the AC180 lineup seems like not much has changed. The specifications of the AC180T are very similar to the 180P. But there’s more than first meets the eye.

This is part of Bluetti’s SwapSolar line, which uses replaceable batteries inside of the power station. Rather than one built-in battery like you’d find in nearly every portable power station, this uses two swappable battery packs. These are called the B70 extra batteries, and each one has a capacity of 716Wh. since two fit inside the AC180T power station, that means you have a very robust 1,433Wh of power at your hands.

Read more details in our dedicated post to the Bluetti AC180T and the SwapSolar system.

There are tons of benefits to the removable and swappable batteries. First, you can take out the batteries and use them in other Bluetti devices, starting with the Bluetti MultiCooler portable fridge. No more being tethered to the power station. Just pop a battery out of the power station and into the fridge, then bring either device wherever you need it. And they’re hot-swap capable – you don’t have to worry about shuttign down charging sources first.

Removable batteries also helps alleviate battery anxiety. These are made from LFP chemistry, so they have over 3,000 cycles (about 10 years) at 80% capacity. But being able to replace batteries is always a great thing. If you accidentally mistreat them or run into any issues, you no longer have to replace the entire unit. You can simply pop out the old battery and put in a new one.

This Bluetti power station keeps up with the usual AC180 attractive features, including a 1,800W AC inverter, plus all the USB ports and AC outlets you could need. The

    BLUETTI PS72 Portable Power Station

    Bluetti PS72, AC60, & AC2A

These Bluetti solar generator and power station models are far from identical, but they are starting to look quite identical in some aspects.

These models can pair with a small solar panel to provide charging power for phones and laptops and power lights. But as you step into more serious needs, like powering a fridge or keeping an internet router running, these start to get pushed beyond their limits.

Nonetheless, they’ll work amazingly well when used for the right purposes. For many tent campers who need a little juice while under the stars, these can be great.

    The basic rundown is:

    • PS72: 700W output, ~700Wh battery, and 200W solar input
    • AC60: 600W output, ~400Wh battery (expandable up to 2kWh), and 200W solar input
    • AC2A: 300W output, ~200Wh battery, and 200W solar input

BLUETTI X60 CPAP Portable Power Bank

    Bluetti CPAP Power: X30 & X60

Medical gear like a CPAP doesn’t get time off. You need to have power no matter where you go and regardless of the energy company’s status.

The larger Bluetti power stations can fill that need well. They have different outputs that will work for any CPAP machine that you can plug into a regular outlet. The downfall is that you may have to use the AC plug, which is not as efficient as DC outlets.

This innovative series of Bluetti CPAP power stations provides a very specific model to meet CPAP needs. They forgo the AC outlet and inverter. Instead, they include a wider variety of DC outlets (mainly different USB plugs with varying voltage) to match about 90% of CPAPs on the market.

The Bluetti X30 and X60 feature:

    • 12V, 16V, and 24V outputs designed to work with 90% of CPAP machines
    • No 110V AC power inverter

Generally, the larger Bluetti power stations are much more capable devices and we suggest carefully reviewing those.

But if you like this simplicity, it the X30 or X60 may be a good option to go with. Here are the general specifications for the Bluetti CPAP power stations:

    • X30: ~300Wh NCM battery, 4 outlets, 75W charging input, 4 lbs.
    • X60: ~600Wh lithium battery, 5 outlets, 75W charging input, 15 lbs.

    An assortment of Bluetti accessories

    Essential Bluetti Accessories

Along with your power station and solar panels, your solar generator might need some essential Bluetti accessories to work as you want.

    Home Integration Kits

You can plug your phone and small devices, even a fridge, directly into many Bluetti power stations. But when you want to get series about home battery backup power, you want to install a subpanel. This puts the Bluetti system in direct connection with your home circuits. And it’s essential for products like the EP900, EP800, EP500, or AC500.

These are commonly known as critical load panels. As the name indicates, they allow you to select certain critical circuits (like a fridge, bedroom, and other select areas) for a separate electrical panel.

You also want a transfer switch. This lets you switch between grid power and off-grid power station power. Some are automatic, instantly noticing a grid outage and switching to backup power in milliseconds. Others are manual. You’ll have to flip a switch to use backup power.

The Bluetti Home Integration Kits provide the exact subpanel and switch you need based on the Bluetti device you have. While these make things easy, you can always look at non-Bluetti options as well. The Bluetti options are made by Reliance.

    Fusion Box

Some of the Bluetti power stations can run in a split -phase connection. This is a fancy description for connecting two power stations together. The EP500Pro, EP500, AC500, and AC300 can all function in this way.

Using this Bluetti Fusion Box connector allows you to run your two Bluetti devices together. This doubles the rated power (wattage) and can increase the voltage (turning 110V into 240V).

Part of the Fusion Box package includes a special communications cable. This connects your two Bluetti power stations together so they can monitor energy use and battery levels. You’ll see them working together through your Bluetti app too.

    DC Charging Enhancer

Some Bluetti power stations can be greatly improved with a Bluetti DC Charging Enhancer. It’s a small device that works between a DC power input and your power station or external battery. It may also be necessary in some situations to connect external batteries.

The main purposes of the Bluetti DC Charging Enhancer are:

    • Allow for increased solar power charging rates through unused input ports
    • Help connect external batteries to certain Bluetti power stations (AC200/AC200P)

    PV Step Down Module

When you connect any solar panels to any power station, you must stay within the voltage limitations of the power station. If you exceed the voltage, you can destroy the power station.

If you have solar panels that exceed your power station’s voltage rating, the PV Step Down Module is there to save the day. It can take up to 3,000W of solar panel input with up to 550V and step the voltage down to a usable level as low as 120V. It increases the amperage to do so.

This can be a true lifesaver if you already have solar panels but they’re too high voltage for your Bluetti power station backup supply. No more concerns about not being able to use your solar panels to charge your off-grid battery.

How Solar Generators Work - Charge with multiple sources and use for any device

Guide: How to Use a Bluetti Solar Generator

You can have the latest and greatest gear, but knowing how to use a Bluetti solar generator is going to be necessary. Thankfully, these power stations and solar generators are amazingly easy to use.

Using a Bluetti solar generator comes down to three things:

    • Connecting the input to a charging supply
    • Connecting the outputs to your devices and/or circuits
    • Monitoring your battery levels and usage

Power stations can use many different sources to charge their internal battery. Using solar panels makes it so you capture energy whenever the sun is shining. But for other times, you can also connect it to a household outlet, use a car’s cigarette lighter, or turn on a fuel generator (propane, diesel, gasoline).

Once you have the battery charged, you can move the power station wherever you want to use it. You don’t have to leave the charging input connected while in use. You’ll rely on the battery instead.

Then it’s time to connect it to your devices or circuits. One option is to simply plug your devices directly into the Bluetti solar generator. Using the DC outputs (USB & 12V) will be the most efficient, meaning you’ll get the most out of the energy stored inside. But you can always switch on the AC inverter and use the regular 110V or 240V outlet too.

To use a Bluetti solar generator as a home backup solution or for an RV or campervan, you’ll want to establish a direct connection to your circuits. This usually means installing a subpanel, something that is best done by a professional. Then you just run the appropriate cable from your Bluetti to the subpanel. Using two Bluetti devices at once might be desired, then you use a Fusion Box to run a split phase system.

At that point, you’re charged up and connected! That’s really it

You can monitor your Bluetti battery level through the device’s display. But the Bluetti app will provide a lot more detail, including energy use and other settings. This can tell you if your charge rates match your energy use. When deciding how many solar panels you need, this information is crucial.
