The Shortlist: Mango Power Stations

There are essentially three main products in the Mango Power units array. The one that brings the most attention in the Mange Power E generator. It’s a large power station that blends the line between home backup use and portable power station. A single Mango Power E has 3.5kWh battery and 3kW AC inverter. But it’s a modular unit with a maximum battery capacity of 14kWh and max AC output of 6kW, enough to power entire homes. Yet you can still bring it along on adventures or use to add solar power to an RV.

The other popular option is the Mango Power M, a stationary home battery backup system with mind-blowing capabilities. It lacks the portability that other power stations and solar generators have, but it makes up for it with modular expansion up to 80kWh battery size and 120kW AC output. This AC output is absolutely outrageous, perhaps the highest in the entire industry. Even just the base system alone is 15kWh battery and 12kW inverter, great for most needs. It’s serious business as a home backup system. And it comes with the price to match.

The thrid and final part of the Mango Power station lineup is the Mango Power Union. This is a more revolutionary two-part device that takes the portable power station quite literally, yet also offers a big-battery home backup solution. The design includes a detachable upper unit with part of the battery and the main components, including the inverter and charge controllers. It fuses with a lower unit that ramps up the battery size and allows the AC inverter to operate at full power. You can remove the top to take it on adventures, then come home and snap it back in place. The only catch – and it’s a big one – is that the world still awaits delivery. But Mango Power says it should happen soon.

Now let’s go through each of these Mango Power stations in more detail. We’ll also cover plus the other essential Mango Power accessories and solar panels you should know about.

Mango Power E

Whether you’re preparing for an adventurous getaway or securing a robust backup for your home, the Mango Power E is engineered to deliver powerful performance in a portable design. The heart of this system is a versatile Mango Power E power station, featuring:

  • Integrated battery pack
  • AC inverter
  • Comprehensive array of charging inputs and outputs

The Mango Power E base unit stands ready with a 3.5kWh battery. Mango Power say that’s capable of running a home fridge for nearly 100 hours or recharging a phone about 540 times, but we find those figures a little optimistic. Our math shows it’s closer to a home fridge for about a full day or recharging a phone around 300 times.

The base unit’s inverter pumps out 3kW of AC output through 110V outlets, including a robust 30A outlet perfect for high-demand appliances like electric dryers and RVs. You’ll find yourself looking for devices to charge through its multitude of ports, including 4 standard 110V, 6 USB-A, 2 USB-C, a 12V port, and 2 DC5521 barrel plugs. 3kW is suitable for most needs and can keep your fridge and all small devices, lights, chargers, up and running. But it won’t tackle an air conditioning unit or electric dryer. It’s a more middle-of-the-road inverter size.

The portable part of this portable power station is also a bit hit or miss. It integrates with a home subpanel with one cable, so you can unplug it and take it anywhere. It also has two small wheels and a retractable luggage handle. However, portability depends on your strength and cargo space. It tips the scales at about 100 lbs (45 kg) and resembles the size of a mini fridge or two medium suitcases. If you have the space and can deal with its size/weight, you can bring it with your camping gear or tuck it in an RV storage compartment. But we find it is more suitable as a stationary unit rather than ultra-portable. The biggest benefit is that you don’t have to leave it behind if you move. And you can use it for RV and home use.

The Mango Power E lets you scale up thanks to its modular design. You can:

  • Adding an external battery pack to double the storage capacity to a robust 7kWh
  • Integrate an additional Mango Power E unit and battery, boosting your system’s capacity to 14kWh and doubling the AC output to 6kW

If you want to run heavy-duty appliances at the same time, then you’ll likely need the additional Mango Power E unit with another battery. Or check out the Mango Power M, which is significantly more powerful all around. But also more expensive and is only for home use.

You can control and monitor this power station through the Mango Power app, which is a big plus and keeping in line with industry standards. As of early 2024, there are some reports of the app missing some critical features, which Mango Power says are still in development. The new brand is still experiencing some growing pains.

One issue we discovered is that if the battery hits zero, you must recharge with AC power before it will accept solar input. This can be problematic for off-grid or RV use. You must make sure to avoid completely discharging it when you don’t have an AC source nearby. Or else you’ll be without power until you can get one.

The Mango Power E is an investment in a scalable, powerful solution tailored to meet the demands of home backup and portable power needs. It’s a good start from a promising company, although its single-unit specifications are a little less robust that similarly-priced rivals.

Mango Power M Home Backup Energy System

    Mango Power M

Now let’s go over our Mango Power M review. It’s a powerhouse of energy autonomy designed for the modern home. A very impressive device that we think is actually the best Mango Power station available right now. The only catch is the price. It starts with very high specifications and capabilities, so its price tag matches.

The Mango Power M starts with:

    • One inverter unit with integration to solar and home circuits (no other transfer switch needed)
    • One battery cabinet with three battery packs inside, totaling 15kWh

This minimum package is plenty of power for most home backup needs. And if you want to extend your reliable power, you can add on more inverters or battery packs. One more battery pack can go inside the cabinet, bringing it up to 20kWh very easily.

But you can add up to four more battery cabinets, packing an impressive 80kWh in total. At this time, the new EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra is the only peer with a larger max battery size at 90kWh.

The built-in 12kW hybrid inverter is very impressive for a starting point inverter. The vast majority of home users can be fine with this alone. For very serious power needs, this Mango Power station supports up to 10 additional inverter units to reach a groundbreaking 120kW output. Quite literally one of the most impressive AC outputs available from a power station.

The convenience factor is big here. This unit delivers a seamless integration with home power. To get the same figures and function from another company, you’ll have to get more than one inverter unit, additional battery packs, and a subpanel. This puts everything into one starter package.

Plus, you can connect the inverter unit to:

    • New or existing solar
    • Grid connection
    • Your home circuits

Once installed (which only takes a few hours for pro installation), you can call the Mango unit to transition to battery backup power during outages. Or use an ideal combination of battery/solar/grid power to cut your energy bills. This system is powerful, smart, and offers serious energy independence.

One way that Mango Power M goes above most power station options is its ability to send excess solar power back to the grid. This feature is commonly part of home solar arrays, but most difficult to find with solar generator battery backup systems.

Whether you need dependable home backup during emergencies or aim to maximize your renewable energy use, the Mango Power M adapts effortlessly. You can also use it to help schedule battery use during peak pricing hours, then use the grid during lower-priced hours overnight.

It’s modular, scalable, and ready to meet the demands of any household, from daily energy management to peak load shifting, ensuring you never miss a beat. This Mango Power station can help anyone reap the benefits of a smart, integrated power management system that grows with your needs.

    Mango Power Union Power Station

    Mango Power Union

The Mango Power Union stands out as a pioneering energy solution that marries the robust capabilities of a home power system with the flexibility of a portable unit. This innovative Mango Power station features a unique two-part design:

    • Power Move: a smaller upper portion that includes the AC inverter and part of the battery
    • Power Home: the larger lower portion with more of the battery

This dual functionality allows the Mango Power Union to cater to a wide range of energy needs, from providing reliable home backup during outages to supplying portable power for outdoor activities.

The specs change depending on if you’re using the mobile unit alone or if you combine it with the lower stationary unit. The upper removable portion, the Mango Power Move, offers a 2,000W AC output and 2,350Wh battery when used alone. This is a very respectable amount of energy for mobile needs, ideal for camping situations or powering outdoor entertainment.

When you connect the upper unit with the lower stationary portion, the Mango Power Home module, then your specifications jump up to a 6.9kWh battery and 4kW AC output. Now you can surge to accommodate higher power demands. You can also run up to 10 units in parallel, creating monster power systems.

Beyond its primary functions, the Mango Power Union integrates smart technology to manage and optimize energy use efficiently. Mango Power 400W Ultra-Light Portable Solar Panel

Mango Power Solar Panels: Full List

Mango Power offers two solar panels: the 400W Ultra-Light Portable Solar Panel and the Solar Move 200W Panel. Both are pretty impressive and are designed to work seamlessly with Mango Power systems.

Mango Power recommends you get two of either system (400W or 200W) to use these solar panels with the Mango Power E. That’s because the smart MPPT charge controller’s minimum voltage is 60V. You need to connect two panels in series to reach that high voltage and gather electricity.

    400W Solar Panel

The Mango Power 400W Ultra-Light Portable Solar Panel is the larger option, with a pretty standard 23% conversion rate. What’s not standard about this one is its robust construction and unique support frame.

Most portable solar panels simply unfold and it’s on you to set them up. Perhaps integrating a stand or two. This one includes a strong metal frame to keep it securely in place, flat, and able to gather the most sunlight possible. It also has an impressive IP68 waterproof rating. This is a portable solar panel that you can set up and forget about, in a very good way.

Mango Power Solar Panel Solar Move 200W

    200W Solar Panel

The smaller Mango Power Solar Move 200W Panel is still respectable, but it uses ETFE Solar Cell Lamination instead, dropping conversion to 22%. Once again, this is pretty routine industry standard.

This Mango Power portable solar panel has the usual fold-out style, but its support stands are located on each end, making it more stable than most. But still not as nice as the larger 400W panel.

    Essential Mango Power Accessories

The Mango Power M home backup solution is ready to go without any accessories since it’s such an integrated design. But the Mango Power E or Union may need an accessory, especially if you want to use them as home backup or pair multiple units together.

    Mango Power mPanel Pro

First up is the Mango Power mPanel Pro. This allows you to connect your Mango Power station to your home circuits through a subpanel. It serves as a critical backup component for essential home appliances. This function is integrated into the Mango Power M, so it’s not necessary.

In the event of a power outage, it automatically switches the power supply from the grid to the Mango Power E battery, ensuring that critical loads remain powered. This seamless transition is vital for maintaining the operation of crucial systems in your home without interruption. And it’s just one plug from your power station unit to the subpanel. Plus, it’s all controlled and monitored through the app.

    Mango Power Company Information

As the number of portable power station manufacturers increases, this one shows a lot of promise. Mango Power is a renewable energy company focused on providing a small set of very powerful solutions, ideal for home backup use, but also with some portability offered. They design and manufacture these portable and home power stations, along with compatible solar panels and accessories, aimed at promoting energy independence and sustainability.

The largest downside to their products is that they are relatively untested. But initial customer feedback and reliability testing is quite positive. And so is the impressive warranty coverage plus satisfactory customer service. All things are looking good so far.

    History

Started in May 2021, Mango Power is one of the youngest power station brands around. It has a vision of creating advanced microgrid control with groundbreaking AI power profiling technologies. And it puts energy innovation front and center.

Mango Power stations quickly positioned themselves in the market with the introduction of the Mango Power Union kickstarter campaign. This versatile system caught the eye of many would-be buyers as a power station that caters to both home and portable use.

They’ve now expanded with the Mango Power E portable power station, plus the Mango Power M home backup power solution.

Mango Power is located in the United States, with its North American headquarters in City of Industry, California. It also has a main office in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Like the vast majority of battery-focused electronics, Mango Power products are manufactured in China.

Other companies might talk the talk, but Mango Power is walking the walk in an entirely new way.

Guide: How to Use a Mango Power Solar Generator

Using a Mango Power Station or solar generator is as easy as possible.

    Using the Mango Power E

The Mango Power E station is great for home backup, RV use, and portable adventures. To use it, you can charge it from an existing AC source (outlet) or connect solar panels. You can also get more creative with your off-grid power generation. Make sure your solar panel connections are done so that you meet the 60V input required. This can be tough with smaller solar panels. You can also use this solar panel calculator to see how many panels you need. Then make sure to wire them using series vs. parallel connections to get the right voltage, at least 60V here.

Once you have it charged, you can use the built-in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to power your devices.

One way is to simply connect them right to the Mango Power Station. It has a variety of AC and DC outlets, including many USB ports, that can charge your devices. This is great for using it as a quick home backup solution to keep phones, a router, and maybe one fridge or TV plugged in during an outage.

But there’s an even better way to use it for home backup, if that’s your goal.

Get the Mango Power mPanel Pro and have it installed by a professional. It’s a simple subpanel installation that should take less than a few hours for qualified pros. Or do it yourself if you can confidently fiddle around with your home circuits and grid power. Then you just plug the Mango Power E from its 30A outlet to the mPanel Pro. Use the app to control when it kicks on. It can automatically switch over during a grid outage or you can tell it exactly when to use battery, solar, or grid power.

If you want to use it to provide more power to your RV, then you just need the 30A output. Connect a cord from the Mango Power E to your RV’s shore power input, just like you would at many campgrounds. It’ll provide electricity, thinking it’s a shore power source.

    Using the Mango Power M

For Mango Power M customers, the only thing to worry about is initial installation. This has a more integrated approach and ties in directly with your grid power and any solar you may have. It takes over more responsibility as one of the main panels to your home circuits. Once installed, you simply use the app to monitor and control it. Once again, this can be through any combination of solar, battery, and grid power you’d like. Use it to keep your energy bills low or to just kick in during emergency outages. Or both!
