Quick Overview: Delta 2 Max

When it comes to midrange power stations, the expectations are high due to the abundant competition. To be worth your attention, it must combine capable power specs with all the right features. And be offered at the right price.

EcoFlow has a special talent for delivering high-quality power stations with all the right features. And the Delta 2 Max is an ideal example as a well-rounded system that’s hits all the right marks and is exceptionally easy to use.

The things to like the most about the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max include:

  • Very capable inverter that can handle most devices
  • Sufficient battery capacity with modular expansion possible
  • Much lighter than competitor options
  • Typically a significantly better value than other brands

Overall, this is a great power station that can be used at home or on the road with satisfying results. But we’re not afraid of pointing out the flaws. And there are some areas with room for improvement, such as:

  • Lackluster 30ms EPS function could be faster
  • No high-amp outputs

Unfortunately, to get these features on an EcoFlow system, you have to step all the way up to the Delta Pro 3, which is an exceptional system but it’s also more expensive. If you need a fast UPS or high-amp outlets, the Anker F2600 or Bluetti AC200 may be a better choice. More details around the corner about those two and other comparisons.

Compared to Other EcoFlow Power Stations

There are a lot of power stations to choose from just within the EcoFlow lineup alone. Before you drop your dough on any one, it’s important to make sure it’s the right call. So let’s see how the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max compares to other EcoFlow Delta power stations.

There was a time when the Delta 2 Max (D2M) was the second most-powerful EcoFlow system. But EcoFlow has continued to push the entire industry upward and now there are three units with more power. The Delta 2 Max is squarely in the middle of the Delta lineup. It’s not the extreme power (or price) of EcoFlow’s most powerful unit, the Delta Pro Ultra, yet it’s still well above any EcoFlow River power station and the lower Delta models, such as the Delta 2 (non-Max).

As soon as you step up even just one more unit in EcoFlow’s lineup, the price goes significantly higher. The ones above the Delta 2 Max have much higher modular expansion abilities. If you don’t need the extra power of those units, then stick with the D2M. Or consider the slightly smaller but newer Delta 3 Plus, one of our favorite units.

The bottom line is that the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max hits a reasonable spot for many needs. And in doing so, it keeps price well below most of the more extreme options. This is a system that you won’t quickly grow out of yet you don’t have to empty your bank account to get.

Here’s a chart comparing the EcoFlow Delta power stations so you can see how the Delta 2 Max fits in. To see more pricing details, head over to our post on EcoFlow Sales and Prices.

Delta 2 Max Compared to Other Brands

It’s impossible to provide a good look into the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max without comparing it to similar models. Here’s a quick look at how this power station compares to models from other brands:

    • Bluetti AC200L: A top choice with the same internal battery as the D2M. But this Bluetti has more expansion (8kWh), plus it includes high-amp outputs (AC and DC) as well as <20ms UPS function.
    • Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus: Typically much more expensive, but this Jackery is more powerful all around with <20ms UPS and serious expansion potential up to 24.5kWh battery. Also includes a 30-amp AC output.
    • Anker Solix F2000: Includes 30-amp AC outlet but has less battery expansion (4.1kWh).
    • BougeRV Rover 2000: Innovative semi-solid state battery tech allowing for super-compact and lightweight, and still offers up to 8kWh expansion.

This is a very difficult segment to compete in. The Bluetti AC200L is perhaps the most attractive if you need the UPS and high-amp features. Nonetheless, the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max holds its own when it comes to core features and the single-unit power. It doesn’t have the largest battery expansion though.

What the Delta 2 Max does have, at least for the time being, is the lowest per Wh price on the market. It hits all the right fundamentals and still is more affordable and a better value than anything else. Why pay for things you don’t need? There’s also a lot of value in the EcoFlow brand as it’s one of the most trusted power station manufacturers around.

Detailed Review: EcoFlow Delta 2 Max

We’ve take a high-level look at the Delta 2 Max. Now it’s time to dive in to the deep end. Not only are we going to discover the details, but we’ll also provide a reality-based overview of the specs that will show you what they mean.

    We’ll cover these sections:

A spider chart of the Delta 2 Max features

AC Inverter: Ready to Provide Big Power

The AC inverter is needed to provide the usual 110V/120V outlets you find at home. The higher the wattage of the AC inverter, the more power it can provide at one time through its AC outlets.

Where does this power station fit into your needs? This inverter is enough to handle almost any appliance or device, especially when it comes to small and medium electronics. But it’ll also step up and take care of big power needs, as long as you’re careful about it.

The Delta 2 Max could power a full-size refrigerator for about 8 hours, charge a laptop >25 times, or keep a CPAP machine running for over 2 days. You can simultaneously run this entire list of devices (about 750W total) without breaking a sweat:

    • Refrigerator
    • LED lights
    • Router/modem
    • Smartphone charging
    • Small fan
The Delta 2 Max inverter can power most home appliances and devices

This 2,400W inverter can also handle kitchen appliances like a powerful blender and even some induction cooktops. And it also handles surges up to 4,800W for devices with high startup power needs. But if you’re looking to power an entire home, it might be worth considering one of the larger home battery backup options instead.

EcoFlow also includes its X-Boost technology, rated at 3,400W for the Delta 2 Max. This mode reduces voltage to run higher-wattage appliances. It’s a great feature, but ideally, it’s better to find a power station that meets your needs without limiting voltage.

Another aspect for inverter power is pass-through charging and any uninterruptible power supply (UPS) function. A UPS device powers critical devices with grid power, then switches to the internal battery during a blackout. The Delta 2 Max has this feature, but it’s rated at 30ms. This is a slightly longer switchover time than most rivals that feature a 20ms switchover time – more likely to keep your computers, TV, and routers from rebooting during an outage.

Inverter Verdict: This is a very capable power station with the ability to power large appliances with its 2,400W inverter. And for those times you might need to exceed that, EcoFlow’s X-Boost technology can push even higher. Whether you want to run an entire handful of small or medium devices or make sure your kitchen stays humming, the Delta 2 Max can do it.

Ports, Outlets, and Features: Connectivity First

There’s no point to a power station unless it can connect to your devices. And this is a tricky part of design as each company has to pick and choose what they think will be best for the user.

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max has a lot of outlets and ports:

    • AC Outlets: 6 110V/120V outlets
    • USB Ports: 4 USB-A ports (12W or 18W) and 2 high-power 100W USB-C ports
    • DC Outputs: 2 DC5521 ports (38W / 3A each) and a 12V (126W) car cigarette lighter output
All of the ports and outlets on the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max

This list of ports and outlets is respectable. But there is one thing missing: a high-amp output of any type. This makes it tough to connect the Delta 2 Max to an RV’s high-amp input. Bluetti, Anker, and Jackery all include a 30-amp AC output. If that’s your plan, it’s likely worth checking out one of the other brands.

This EcoFlow power station has the ability to connect to the EcoFlow app. It provides real-time data on power usage, battery level, and even allows you to adjust settings or update firmware. You can expect this across the board at this level, but EcoFlow’s app is known to be superb.

Connections Verdict: The Delta 2 Max has sufficient outlets and ports for all your small and medium devices. One of its major downsides is the lack of a high-amp output. While those can chew through the batteries a little too rapidly, it’s still a nice feature to have. And the competitor options do include them, although they’re typically more expensive.

    Battery: Capacity, Chemistry, and Longevity

The battery is what determines how much energy the power station can hold and how long it can run your devices for. It’s also important to pay attention to the type of battery used as some have much better longevity than others.

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max has a 2,048Wh LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery. This chemistry is known for its excellent stability, safety, and longevity. It is rated to have more than 3,000 charge cycles before reaching 80% capacity. You could use the Delta 2 Max daily for over 8 years before noticing a significant drop in performance. It’s a true testament to durability and value.

The long 3,000 cycle battery life of most EcoFlow power stations

You can add two EcoFlow Smart Extra Batteries to the Delta 2 Max. This battery expansion hits up to about 6.1kWh in total, able to power:

    • 200W home fridge for over 24 hours
    • Charge a laptop about 80 times or a phone about 500 times

This power station is ideal for long-term camping adventures with small and medium devices all by itself. It can also handle short-term home outages. But if you want to tackle those medium or larger appliances — or go off-grid for much longer — the extra battery packs deliver the power you need. Even if it’s not the tremendous power of the larger EcoFlow Delta models, it’s still a powerful system.

If you want to find out how much power your devices use, a watt meter can be very helpful. Plug it in and see how many Wh your critical appliances use over the course the day. This is an extremely useful way to verify the power station will meet your needs.

In comparison to the other brands, EcoFlow is a little more limited. Bluetti and BougeRV reach around 8kWh. The Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus is (once again) the standout option with up to 24.5kWh total battery power.

Battery Verdict: The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max’s battery has the right amount of internal capacity with a nice amount of expansion, but not the most in the industry. The LiFePO4 chemistry is hard to beat, but BougeRV’s semi-solid state is trying to buck the industry trend and might be ahead of its time.

Charging Speeds: Fast Enough for Your Needs?

When you want to get a lot of use from your power station, you’ll need to see fast recharging rates. This can come from multiple sources, like a regular AC outlet, solar panels, car charging, and other ways to generate off-grid energy.

To determine about how fast the power station will recharge, take the Watt-hours of the battery and divide by the Watts of the power source. Then add about 20% due to real-world inefficiencies (heat loss, connections, etc.).

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max has the charging speeds you need. The AC charging is as fast as you could want at 1,800W, while the solar input of 1,000W total is perfectly reasonable for the 2kWh internal battery.

The Delta 2 Max has two solar charging inputs

EcoFlow also splits up this 1,000W solar input across two ports, adding flexibility with how you connect the solar panels. You want to get the power station specs and solar panel specs, then run it through our calculator: How Many Panels Can Your Power Station Handle?

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max’s charging rates are more than sufficient to quickly refill its battery.

We also like other EcoFlow charging systems, like the EcoFlow Dual Fuel Smart Generator and EcoFlow Alternator Charger. These are two great ways to refill your Delta 2 Max when solar or grid power isn’t available. The Alternator Charger can use almost any car or RV to charge your power station while driving.

Charging Verdict: EcoFlow makes sure to include the charging inputs needed for routine use of the Delta 2 Max without a hassle. You can connect it to a standard wall outlet and get a quick fill before hitting the road or while preparing for a big storm. Plus, its solar input and ability to work with many different EcoFlow accessories is exceptional.

Weight and Dimensions: Is It Truly Portable?

The midrange power stations can start to get a little heavy compared to the smaller 500W power stations that put portability first. The Delta 2 Max is going to be heavier due to the increased battery, inverter, and more heavy-duty components.

At 50lbs (23kg), the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max is quite reasonable consider its capabilities. Most others are at least 60lbs (27kg) or more. The only lighter one is the BougeRV Rover 2000, and that’s because it uses the unique semi-solid state battery.

The Delta 2 Max’s size will fit in most car trunks, closets, or under a desk. It’s comparable to a small suitcase or a large microwave.

EcoFlow also includes two ergonomic handles on the upper ends of the Delta 2 Max. While it’s not something you want to hike around for miles with, many people can carry it across the park or through the house without much of a concern.

Portability Verdict: Overall, the Delta 2 Max is nearly impossible to beat when it comes to weight. For its battery size and inverter capabilities, you are very hard pressed to find a lighter power station. It’s ideal for portable use.

EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max Portable Power Station

Final Verdict: Do We Recommend This Power Station?

After taking a close look at the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max, we can verify that this is an amazingly capable power station that’s offered at one of the best values on the entire market. While it’s not the biggest or most powerful, it’s ready to deliver sufficient inverter power through a wide variety of outlets and ports, backup up by a lot of battery capacity including modular expansion.

This midrange power station can easily handle most camping trips with small and medium-sized devices, as well as home backup needs to power even big appliances like your fridge, television, and in a pinch, some induction cooktops.

It’s limits start to become apparent through the lack of a high-amp output, which makes it less than ideal to use to power an entire RV. But to be frank, most people would be disappointed with this size power station to do that job. It would be better to step up to a more powerful unit anyway. There’s a very good reason EcoFlow left that off this device.

The other major downside is the 30ms EPS instead of a faster UPS. And if you’re getting a power station to keep your computer running on grid power then switching to battery without rebooting, the Delta 2 Max is NOT the device for you. You’ll have to go with another EcoFlow or one of the alternatives we’re about to explore.

    EcoFlow Delta 2 Max
    • Incredible value
    • Very capable system
    • Modular battery expansion
    • Lacks high-amp output

Here’s a quick summary of the Delta 2 Max overview:

    • AC Inverter: 2,400W pure sine wave inverter with 4,800W peak surges and 6 AC outlets
    • Ports and Outlets: 6 AC outlets, 4 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C ports, and two other types of DC outlets
    • Battery Capacity: 2,048Wh internal battery with up to 6,144Wh available through extra battery packs
    • Charging Speeds: 1,800W AC charging (~1.4 hours) and 1,000W solar charging (~2.5 hours)
    • Weight and Dimensions: Just 50lbs (23kg) and one of the most compact options
    • Value: One of the lowest prices for this size, especially when compared as a price per watt-hour

Final Verdict: We can recommend the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max as a power station for small and mid-level power needs. As long as you understand it’s not the absolute most powerful unit and has some limits with larger devices, it has all the bells and whistles needed to provide years of portable power. The solar charging and ability to work with other EcoFlow accessories can also make sure this stays charged up while off the grid or during an extended outage.
